Shea Butter Processing Group Pictures

I know I haven’t been posting very much – so here is a little photo gallery of a few visits to a group of Shea Butter Processors in the District.

The Group farm together on family land as well as for commercial farmers in the area. Here they are sowing rice in the field of one of their members.

The group is meeting with Stephen, MOFA Agricultural Extension Agent, and filling out the registration form for the program we are developing.

On another day we visited to process shea butter with the group. We are up to our elbows!

The ever present Baobab tree.

  • Hi our little brothers.h

  • Sarah,

My name is Dave Grote. I lived in Tongo the year of 2001, the end of 2002, and 2003. The first year I was there I lived at what used to be the agricultural extension officers house at the branch in the road 1/4 mile east of the Tongo market. I taught english and woodworking at the Namalteng Integrated Vocational Training Centre (!) (NIVTRAC) in Gbeogo. The second year I helped build the NIVTRAC classrooms that are on the road that goes out to Winkogo, and I lived in Gbeogo. I have several very good friends in Tongo, and worked closely with Chief Pius, who is the chief of Gbeogo. I’m kind of thrilled that you are posting pictures and descriptions of your work in Tongo, and scan the photos for familiar faces. I am now a civil engineer and thinking about ways to come back to Tongo. I can probably sort out the basic facts of your work there by looking at your posts so I won’t ask too many questions. However, I would really appreciate if you were to visit the school sometime, take a few snaps, and tell me a little about how it is doing. The reports I get from my Ghanaian friends are encouraging but undetailed. Also, feel free to ask me questions, for help or advice or whatever. Tongo is like my second hometown, and people there will confirm that I am truly part African. Thank you for your service to the people. Are there any promising agricultural projects underway? My sister works in international agricultural development, and keeps an eye open for good prospects. Also, are there plans to rebuild any of the dams that burst? They rebuilt the one in Gbeogo while I was there, and it collapsed again in 2004. There’s a study problem for EWB! Anyway, feel free to get in touch. Blessings.

  • Hello Dave,

I wouldn’t mind visiting the school at all. feel free to call me 024 925 1246 or email sarah.ewb gmail.com to send contact info so that I end up visiting the right place!

It would also be great to chat with you, as I am in contact with many agric projects. On the subject of dams ~ The Winkogo Dam burst this year, along with almost 30 others in the region because of the increased water level and low quality of construction… and croc holes, of course.

    Best wishes,

    Sarah

  • Very good site! I like it! Thanks!4

  • Your work is marvelous!!c

  • For Dave Grote,

I have been contacted by Gbeogo chief and will do my best to go and visit with a camera in the next two weeks. :) My guide in the area is busy with a funeral this week but we will do our best to make time. Thank you for the connection!

Please feel free to stay in email contact.
